So, many of us have this notion that our parents are nowhere near as cool as we are and definitely do not like the same music as we do. I am sure that we all think that our parents don't rock out at concerts on a Friday night or even go out on a Friday night at all because they are parents right? Well let me tell you that this is not entirely true. This past weekend, my little sister spent her Friday with me in residence watching a movie while our parents headed to the Hummingbird Centre to see a show by Queen-It's a Kinda Magic, which is a Queen tribute band. I , being a Queen fan myself, thought this was pretty cool and wondered why they hadn't offered me a ticket. Later on that Friday evening, I got a phone call from my mother, who was in a frenzy, stating that she had just got backstage and had interviewed the band by saying she was a media reporter from a newspaper ( yes, she may have said the Strand!). So here I was, sitting at home on a Friday night hanging out with my eight year old sister ( which I love doing) while my rebellious mother, who no doubt had had a few glasses of wine by this point, was playing reporter at a concert. So, Vic, here is my moms debut article in the Strand.

It was a perfect day. A trip to Toronto, dinner out and a concert with friends. This past Friday the 13th was also a perfect day for superstition, black cars and perhaps, a little Freddie Mercury.

Hailing from Australia, the Queen it's a Kinda Magic tribute band rocked Toronto's Hummingbird Centre theatre. In town for two performances ,the bands members Craig Pesco(Freddie Mercury),Dave Christopher(John Deacon), Travis Hair (Brian May) and Brett Millican (Roger Taylor) regaled Toronto fans with some killer Queen, a sound many of us have not heard for years.

Opening up with "Now I'm Here", the crowd immediately rose to their feet and before long, were dancing in the aisles like rowdy teenagers at a rock concert. If the bands message to Toronto was "We Will Rock You" they certainly delivered. On tour for Freddies 60th Birthday, (Freddie would have turned 60 on September 5 but died in 1991) at times it was as though you could feel his presence on stage.
