(S03E05) This episode switched things up a bit. Instead of the other way around, the models chose the designers they wanted. Of course, some of the designers were uncomfortable with the feeling of not being in control in this situation. Their anxiety was made even worse when the designers were challenged to re-create a look for a fashion icon... a fashion icon that they'd have no say in choosing. Their models picked from a selection of icons, ranging from Madonna to Katharine Hepburn to Twiggy. Some designers were ecstatic with their assignments, others were totally clueless (cough cough, his name starts with a "B" and ends with "Radley").The guest judge was Diane von Furstenberg. Follow along by checking out the designs on "Rate the Runway".
Michael (Pam Grier): [WINNER] Finally! Michael won something! After being consistently strong in all the challenges, Michael's magenta hot pants won over the judges. When he first said that he was going to do "hot pants", I imagined the obscenely short shorts that cheerleaders at my high school liked to jiggle around in (my school was rather lax on dress code). Fortunately, that was not Michael's case. The shorts he created were well-proportioned and well-cut. I hope this is the first of many Michael Knight victories.
Laura (Katharine Hepburn): Of course, Laura played on Katharine's infamous pants-wearing lifestyle. She created a pair of really cool, high-waisted pants (not "mom pants"-high waisted, but "Del Marquis from Scissor Sisters"-high waisted). I thought the outfit was very appropriate. However, Laura failed to do anything tremendously eye-catching, so she was only "safe".
Angela (Audrey Hepburn): I hate to admit it, but I actually thought this was kind of nice. The textures of this otherwise simple dress were interesting. I didn't think it was one of the best, but it was better than anything Angela has done (individually) all season.
Uli (Diana Ross): I liked this one. Immediately, I could imagine Diana Ross throwing on that dress and committing some DUIs. I noticed that Uli played with the print-mixing again, using a psychedelic one and animal one. She really likes that, doesn't she? Hm. Well, she does a great job of making it work.
Alison (Farrah Fawcett): Where was the 70s element? Where was the Farrah in this outfit (not including the hair)? I didn't get it, but the judges decided that she was safe.
Kayne (Marilyn Monroe): Kayne created a wonderful presentation. The judges said his model looked like a goth Marilyn Monroe, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The outfit was dark, sexy, and sultry. I thought it was beautiful and a great contender for the winning spot.
Robert (Jackie O): [ALMOST OUT] For the second time in a row, Robert almost gets Auf'd. The judges warned him that if he continued his boring streak, he'd be in deep trouble. He used some boring linen to create a jacket and skirt. Poor fit. I thought he could have done something really amazing if he worked with the popular pink outfit with the pillbox hat (hellooo Doctor Girlfriend). Now, that would have been a challenge.
Jeffrey (Madonna): Since he already designs outfits for those with a rock star lifestyle, Jeffrey had no trouble settling into this assignment. His final product was perfect for a modern-day Madonna. It wasn't amazing, but it was appropriate.
Bradley (Cher): [OUT] Jeffrey put it best when he called Bradley's outfit "supercalifragilisticexpiali-crazy". First of all, Bradley knew almost nothing about Cher. Cher is one of the greatest fashion icons of all time! How can anyone call themselves a designer and not know anything about Cher?! Instead of channeling Bob Mackie, Bradley made some effed up, cheap-looking space top and white pants that gave his model camel-toe. Ridiculous. Bradley was a sweet guy and all, but he was way too aloof. Even from the beginning, there was no doubt that he'd be the one Auf'd.
Vincent (Twiggy): His weird, geometric design was definitely 60s, but not at all fitting for Twiggy. Gag. Vincent, why are you still here?!

Hello!! Thank you!! And he's from LA! ??????!!!!!
I'm not too sad to see him go. He was sweet at first but his constant state, "Help me. I'm Lost. I'm clueless." was REALLY starting to work my nerve.
I LOVED the look on Kayne's face when he didn't win! Heeheee. He’s starting to get a little full of himself.
